SIGLO XVIII

Los orígenes se remontan hacia 1700, cuando varias familias Orendain, cuyo apellido tiene origen en España, se establecieron en Jalisco e iniciaron actividades en agricultura, comercio y minería. Sin embargo, pronto se adentraron apasionadamente en la producción del tequila, crean haciendas legendarias que, con el transcurso del tiempo, se transformaron en florecientes y modernizadas comunidades.

OUR HISTORY

The 20th century marked the inception of a vision. The tequila legacy began with Don Eduardo Orendain González, our esteemed founder, a visionary and one of the most experienced and celebrated distillers of his era. Consequently, the history of Destilería Orendain has evolved as an uninterrupted journey, transcending generations and geographical boundaries.

Taking in the new technologies without loosing its artisanal essence and passion for tradition, the distillery evolves, turning into a global reference in the tequila production industry.

1926

In 1926, Eduardo Orendain González assumed ownership of a modest distillery located in the town of Santiago de Tequila, thus inaugurating the Orendain family’s foray into large-scale tequila production. Eduardo, driven by an ardent devotion to the land, meticulous processes, and the art of distillation, carried on the legacy inherited from his father.

1944

In 1944, Don Cenobio Sauza executed the sale of a property to Mrs. Mercedes Hernández Montaño de Orendain, the spouse of our founding figure. La Mexicana, recognized today as our emblematic distillery, has consistently undergone modernization initiatives over the years, all the while upholding the traditional processes inherent to tequila production.

1959

Eduardo Orendain Gonzalez has assumed the role of the founder and inaugural president of the CNIT (National Chamber of the Tequila Industry), fortifying its position as a leader in advocating, promoting, and safeguarding the interests of the tequila industry and businesses.

1974

A turning point in the Tequila industry, the Chamber works into obtaining the Origin Denomination for Tequila (DOT).

1987

The Secretary of Commerce and Industrial Development in Jalisco has acknowledged Tequila Orendain for its significant involvement and contributions to international business and employment creation. Concurrently, the state government of Jalisco has conferred an award upon the company in recognition of its role in fostering the economic development of the state. Furthermore, the company has garnered national acclaim for the exceptional quality of its products.

1994

Eduardo Orendain Gonzales played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), responsible for ensuring compliance with the Mexican Official Norm. His profound vision and unwavering commitment became an enduring legacy, subsequently inherited by his son, Eduardo Orendain, and future generations of the family. They have continued to uphold the tradition of innovation in the distillery, making significant contributions to the growth and advancement of the industry, both domestically and on the global stage.

2015

“La Mexicana” opens its doors to the public for the first time 2015, offering a unique experience for visitors to learn about the production process of some of the most awarded spirits in the world. It has become a landmark for those who seek to enjoy and learn about authentic tequila, and has established itself as one of the most visited distilleries in Tequila.

2015-2019

The accolades and international recognition bestowed upon all of our products total more than 30, affirming the trajectory and validating nearly a century of unwavering dedication and hard work within the tequila production industry. Our commitment to quality and distinctiveness is evident through the receipt of prestigious awards, spanning from Bruxelles in 2015 and 2019 to San Francisco in 2016. Each accolade serves as a testament to our enduring pursuit of excellence and mastery in tequila production.

2022

On the occasion of its 95th anniversary, La Mexicana has reopened its doors to the public following a period of renovation. This reemergence signals an impressive surge in production, with the distillery now boasting an output of over 6 million liters of tequila. This enhancement marks a notable achievement, representing a 100% increase in the facility’s productive capacity and signifying a watershed moment in the distillery’s esteemed history.

2023-2024

Destileria Orendain has an international presence in over 20 countries around the world. The company is recognized for its agave legacy and distinctive quality in every product. In celebration of the CRT’s 30th anniversary, active members of the Orendain Family received an award from the institution for their historic contributions to the tequila industry. This award recognizes their living legacy that embodies and represents the signature industry in Mexico with honor.
